Hima Ranjit Das, Hima Das (born 9 January 2000) is an athlete who was born in Dhing, a small village in Nagam, Assam, hence Hima Das is also known as 'Dhing Express'.
Hima's life was spent in poverty, father Ranjit Das owns only two bighas of land. By cultivating paddy on this land, he spreads the life of family members.
Their family is a joint family and Hima is younger than four siblings. Hima had shown her interest in sports by playing football with boys during her school days. Hima used to play football with the boys at her father's farm.
In the midst of all this, the rain often flooded his village and the surrounding areas, due to which his crops were often spoiled and the family was in trouble.
Despite all these difficulties, his father never stopped the children from reading and writing and playing Hima.
Due to good performance, Hima later started playing at the district level. There she used to get a hundred or two hundred rupees as a reward, this prize money was very big for Hima due to which she started dreaming of becoming a footballer. Watching big footballers on TV tried to play like them.
Then Shamshul Haq, PT teacher of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya saw that this girl runs very fast, on the advice of sports teacher, she started running.
Then Hima Das was selected in the district level competition and also won two gold medals.
Football has to run a lot, so my stamina grew. But I didn't know that I could be a runner. It was realized by the teacher itself.
Hima arrived for training at a camp in Guwahati. During practice, one had to run on the track daily in the morning. One day, coach Nipun Das saw her running on the track.
They thought that this girl is an amazing runner. If she gets the right training and opportunity, she can win the whole world.
I saw Hima running on the track. Her speed was very high. Then I thought I would train this girl.
After practice, the coach spoke to Hima and advised to train in Guwahati. Seeing the condition of her house, Hima said, Papa will not say yes and all this is out of his ability too.
After this, coach Nipun went to h house and talked to the parents. The training center was about 140 km from the village.
The father was ready to train his daughter but her family was unable to bear the expenses due to limited income.
The coach saw the immense potential in Hima Das. He wanted the country to have a great player, so he agreed to bear all his expenses.
I told the family that your daughter is very capable and do not stop her from moving forward. I will bear the cost of his training and lodging. You just allow her to go to Guwahati.
On hearing this, the family members were happy and Das's father allowed him to go to Guwahati.
Initially, Nipun had prepared her for the 200-meter race and as Hima Das's stamina grew, she started running on the 400-meter track instead of 200 meters.
The specialty of Hima Das is that she puts her life in the last 100 meters.
On Hima's last time catching speed, Nipun Das says, "When Hima was fourth in the last 100 meters in the race, I was sure that she will bring gold this time, I know her technique, she was in the beginning.
It stays a little slow and puts all its energy in the last 100 meters. This is her specialty. "
“Hima has a slight problem on the curve (twist) of the track, it is a minor problem. This is the reason that in the beginning, she is always behind but when the track becomes straight, she recovers quickly and goes to the forefront. "
